Revive the rivers!

On 6th October, 2013 the 9 days long Sri Sathya Sai Grama (Village) Seva (in and around Puttaparthi) began. I happened to have an off that day. It was a sunday. The alumni of Sri Sathya Sai Educational Institutions and devotees of Baba clean up the river Chitravathi that flows through Puttaparthi part by part. I decided to join my father (an alumnus) in cleaning up the river. When we began cleaning alone did I relize the extent of damage done to the river. Plastic bags had almost become one with the soil, there was a lot of construction waste and so on and so forth! I really wondered if a group of about 50 were enough to deal with this herculean task! Few weeks back Puttaparthi receive good rains so the river started flowing for the first time in 5 years! A local was heard saying,"If you do your part, Mother Nature will respond..."
We have to do our part in saving and revitalizing these so called 'holy' rivers. We cannot rely on the Government for it because all that we see is fund allocation, fund swindling and no action. The citizens of this great nation must take tasks into their own hands so that this 'water-rich' land does not become a 'water-thirsty' land...

Save honey bees

I was asked to do a project on some specie that was facing the threat of extinction... I thought of going ahead with the Blue Whale. So I decided to plunge into a full fledged research on the internet. Something made me search for endangered species. Something unexpected caught my eye out of the blue. There quite a few links on Honey Bees being an endangered specie!!

I immediately went through the information available. It stated that they face the threat due to climate change, insecticides...to name a few. We don't realize how important they are for our survival. National Geographic states that honey bees are directly responsible for one-third of the food we eat. They actively take part in pollination. They are responsible for the food we eat. We are already facing food crisis round the planet. With the honey bees out of the picture...we don't need to have much creativity to foresee what will happen. As citizens of the Blue Planet, we must realize that Earth is not only for us to occupy. We have to share it with other creations remembering that unknowingly they make life comfortable for us.

So let us save the honey bees!
